Giving Tuesday: What's the Big Deal Anyway?

Posted by Julie Jones on Nov 22, 2017

Giving Tuesday. Maybe you've scrolled past it on your Twitter feed. Maybe they mentioned it on the radio as you sat in bumper-to-bumper traffic, or you overheard it in the hum-drum of your workplace. Perhaps the phrase became white noise to you among the chaos of the holidays (Did someone say Black Friday?). But maybe, just maybe, you've stopped long enough to wonder - what's the big deal, anyway? Why does this day seem to be so important? A Tuesday, of all days!

Giving Tuesday is a day to shift your focus. It's an opportunity to lift your head above the rising waters of defrosting turkeys, long lines in department stores, wrapping paper, bows, and meticulous cleaning for your visiting in-laws. It's a day that forces you to pause and make a conscious decision to take part in something bigger than yourself. When you donate on Giving Tuesday, you are doing just that. You are investing in someone else's dreams, altering the direction of their life and changing their future for the better. Now, don't count yourself out just because you don't have hundreds of dollars to hand over. Every dollar matters, and everyone has something to give.

At Janus, our goal is to raise $25,000 on Giving Tuesday. It's a lofty goal, but we have big dreams! We want to continue providing more and more opportunities for those with disabilities to participate and contribute to the community. This is our heart and our vision for the future. The bonus? We have an anonymous donor that is matching every donation made on Giving Tuesday up to $12,500. That means your donation - your impact - is automatically doubled!

So when November 28th rolls around, just remember: Whatever you give, wherever you give - you are making a difference.
