Hamilton County JDS Aktion Club Elects Officers
On June 10th, Janus Developmental Services, Inc hosted an organizational meeting to start Hamilton County’s first Aktion Club. The Aktion Club is a community service group composed of adult citizens living with disabilities. The mission of Aktion Club is to provide adults with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative and leadership, to serve their community, to be integrated into society, and to demonstrate the dignity and value of citizens living with a disability. The Aktion Club is a Kiwanis sponsored program and therefore a member of the Kiwanis family. Aktion Club members elect officers and from there begin to develop community service projects. Community service projects adopted by other area Aktion clubs have included: raising funds for Riley Children’s Hospital, families in need, and local animal shelters. Funds have been raised through a variety of efforts including bake sales and car washes. The staff at Janus, local Kiwanis members, and Mr. Don Collins of the Shelbyville Aktion Club and Kiwanis International serve as advisors to the Aktion Club.
On June 23rd, Hamilton County’s first Aktion Club held officer elections and Aktion Club members voted to name the club the Hamilton County JDS (Janus Developmental Services) Aktion Club. The elected officers serve as President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Thirty four consumers joined the club and are working to submit their membership charter to Kiwanis International. The Hamilton County JDS Aktion Club is the 23rd Aktion Club in the State of Indiana and will serve as a meaningful addition to the services provided at Janus Developmental Services, Inc.
